Astrid Bro Christensen worked as an IT consultant for Netcompany for three years before she decided that it was time to test out her skills in another setting. Today, two years later, she’s back at Netcompany, this time in a different role as a managing architect. Here Astrid shares her learnings from her development journey and the importance of listening to your gut feeling.
1. Trust your instincts
Throughout the years, I’ve learned to listen to my gut feeling and let that be an indicator of what direction I want to go. My number one rule is to feel passionate about what I do. And if I don’t anymore, then it’s time to change.
2. Believe in yourself
I have never been afraid of changing direction. Whether it be getting a new job title or changing my career track. It can be nerve-wracking at times, and the learning curve can be steep. But the most important thing is to believe in yourself and remember to praise your progress.

3. Have role models
I’ve always valued being surrounded by talented people who are experts at what they’re doing. Being able to tap into other people’s expertise is crucial for my own learning.
4. Dedicate yourself to the things you like
Working at a company where you have the flexibility to enjoy your life and hobbies outside of work keeps me motivated in my day-to-day. For me personally, that entails my music. I play the saxophone and clarinet and spend most evenings practising for upcoming shows.
5. Say it out loud
When you are vocal about what direction you want to go in terms of your development, it’s more likely to come true. People want to help you and see you succeed in achieving your goals. And the good thing about working in a big company is that plenty of opportunities are available at your fingertips.
